It appears William COLES (1700 – 1753) and Alice PEARSON (1700 – 1743) had five children but four of them did not even live till the age of three.

The location that infant Jack COLLINS was born and died is New Downs Cottage. Today there are properties described as Lookers Cottage and New Downs Farm Cottage in the right vicinity so most likely in that complex but not sure if the original building is still there.

A looker’s role was similar to a shepherd but tended to manage sheep for multiple owners. As you can see it is still a fairly rural spot even now and Google Maps do not take their street view any closer than the corner of the road.

His father Alfred Charles COLLINS (1889 -1972) was actually known as Jack which is presumably why their third child was given the moniker.
