These pages are for those individuals I come across in researching my family that died under the age of 18. I wanted to make sure their lives, however short, are acknowledged.

It is currently a Work In Progress and as I find others will add them to the list and enter more information to the names shown with minimal detail at this time.

Evidence mainly collated via searches of indexes on Ancestry, FreeBMD and the General Register Office [GRO]. In some cases data has come from alternative (personal) sources where verification is not always easily confirmed.

I would not normally use this data but when find a specific date of death quoted from 1581 it feels like the researcher has seen early documentary evidence. However, these are noted with a * to show they are unverified.

The format is set up as follows:

Thomas BEERLING (1633 – 1707) appears to have had three spouses and fourteen children with them. Eight died at a young age.

Only one of the seven he had with Anne POWELL (1640 – 1682) possibly lived to adulthood.

People did reuse names for their children so it is quite usual to see an infant death and then the next child showing the same moniker.

The location that infant Jack COLLINS was born and died is New Downs Cottage. Today there are properties described as Lookers Cottage and New Downs Farm Cottage in the right vicinity so most likely in that complex but not sure if the original building is still there.

Charles died of an acute build up of fluid on the brain and under VRAIN will find another entry that had similar cause of death. This was his sister’s daughter and perhaps she recognised the signs.

Gwenllian died from a fever. Presumably their father was busy with work, being Superintendent of the Cardiff Dock Police, because it is actually her thirteen year old brother who was present at her death and the informant.

There were some TB related illnesses in this generation and the one below. The oldest son had died in the house in June 1871 at the age of 24.
