Goosey Goosey Gander

Again, searches via Ancestry find the death registration which has Lilla Mary GOOSEY born around 1881. Although this seems a very unusual first name there are some passenger list entries which without further investigation have girls of this name born about 1886 and 1889.

However, FreeBMD only shows one Lilla GOOSEY birth so either the others are errors or one or more Lilla Mary’s married to become GOOSEY. This is plausible if someone married in and then another family member honoured them by naming their child the same.

It appears the calculation for the Lilla Mary GOOSEY in question is accurate as Q1 1881 has birth in registration district of Kettering.

Immediately this brings her a step closer to being connected. A search for Edith GOOSEY only has one with Winifred as middle name and she was born about Q1 1882 in Kettering.

Other investigation gives up that the mother’s maiden name for both is WELLS so would hypotheses that sisters and also potentially indicates Lilla was a twin.

Quick searches to see what can be established and find a transcription of Podington, Bedfordshire as Puddingtown in 1851 Census which sounds more of a fun place to live and made me hungry so had to pause research for a snack.

Although again unconfirmed it appears this line snakes back to Irchester in 1741 with the baptism of a William GOOSEY. His parents are Samuel GOOSEY and Mary. So the place is right but no obvious link to my family yet.

Now it may be completely unrelated and just happenstance that the names are similar and much more review would be needed to even work out if plausible with the reduction in records at that time.

The first person searched seemed to descend from a Sam[uel] GOOSEY and his wife Mary. Are they in Weekley in 1731 and have moved to Irchester a decade later?

Perhaps Samuel is a brother to my presumed 7x Great Grandfather Thomas GOOSEY who was born circa 1690 on the edge of Kettering then moved to Holcot before ending in Irchester.

It would appear that all the GOOSEY family members mentioned in this post have spent time within this area as shown on Google Maps which is only about 30 miles between the furthest points.

At this juncture going to pause research but happy that have definitively found two apparently unrelated individuals and connected them together. More research would bring in many more GOOSEY individuals and this may provide the breakthrough needed.
