Dover Heritage Open Days 2025

From here took a short walk past the War Memorial 15around the corner to St Edmund’s Chapel. Here we learnt there is a service every Saturday at 10am. Presumably standing room only. More details about the place in the images that follow.

Happened to be walk along there from the Town Hall with Paul Wells who prefers to be behind the camera. Think there had been about six of us from the previous evening together in there at one point so clearly those interested in history were maximising their opportunities over the weekend.

Paul is co-author of the book with Jeff Howe called Dover Past & Present 16 in the series Britain in Old Photographs. He also runs the Dover (Kent) History Pages group on Facebook 17 and was I believe instigator of the events for the weekend.

Really appreciate all the efforts that went into the organisation and the volunteers who gave up their time to be on hand at all the different locations and events. Nice to know there are so many passionate people about the local history based around the place.

Sadly seems there has been theft and vandalism of the place over time and no longer left open for all to enjoy at their leisure. As usually only seen when driving past the chapel it actually felt bigger and airier inside than expected probably due to being lower than road level.
